ENDORSEMENT: Inzunza & Gonzalez for CV City Council
Two seats on the Chula Vista City Council are up for election on March 5th and it's important to elect candidates who are not involved in any way with the political turmoil that has gripped the county’s second-largest city over the past two years.
MICHAEL INZUNZA FOR DISTRICT 3
In District 3 encompassing the Southeastern areas of the City, Michael Inzunza is the most experienced and knowledgeable of the six candidates running in the open seat.
Inzunza, 51, has been an educator and community volunteer for most of his adult life and was raised among a political family where public service was a key driver for several of his relatives.
As a lifelong Chula Vista resident, Inzunza attended local schools before graduating from St. Augustine High School in San Diego. Over the past twenty years, Inzunza has been an educator and administrator at high schools in San Diego and Chula Vista.
Inzunza earned his BA in Sociology from San Diego State University and his Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix.
But more importantly, Inzunza has been active in the community through his service on local nonprofit boards and as a City Council-appointed Commissioner.
Inzunza supports prioritizing the City budget to hire more police officers and firefighters to keep our neighborhoods safe.
We believe Inzunza’s background and experience will help give the City Council a fresh perspective and working knowledge of how to better serve our community.
Inzunza and his wife, also an educator, have raised their now-teenaged children in Chula Vista.
District 3 includes the communities of Sunbow, Otay Ranch, Heritage Park, and Millenia.
DELFINA GONZALEZ FOR DISTRICT 4
In the Southwest area of Chula Vista, five candidates are vying to replace embattled Councilwoman Andrea Cardenas who is currently facing eight felony criminal charges.
Until this week, Cardenas was still running for re-election but announced she would end her campaign after she resigned her seat on the City Council on Monday, but her name will still appear on the ballot.
Delfina Gonzalez will bring her practical experience and passion for selfless community service to our City Council.
As an organizer for a local labor union that represents home healthcare providers, Delfina is passionate about helping our seniors and most vulnerable residents live their best lives. As a small business owner with her husband for decades, Delfina is also diligent about spending within budgets and planning for unexpected contingencies.
Like Inzunza, Gonzalez showed her independence and solid decision-making when she purposely stayed clear of existing political schemes and conflicted consultants who have pushed Chula Vista into unfavorable news coverage and an expanding corruption investigation that led to the indictment of Councilwoman Cardenas and her brother, Jesus Cardenas, who has been involved in several campaign in the South Bay.
Delfina Gonzalez will be a breath of fresh air and a voice of reason that can help move Chula Vista to a brighter future for all our residents.
Other candidates in the race have connections to Cardenas and political consultants who have created mistrust among voters and Delfina Gonzalez can help restore their faith in our local government.
District 4 includes the areas of Chula Vista roughly west of I-805 and south of L Street.
We encourage voters to support Michael Inzunza in District 3 and Delfina Gonzalez in District 4 on the Chula Vista City Council.
