Welcome to La Prensa!
La Prensa San Diego was founded on December 1, 1976, as the first Spanish language publication in San Diego County. Since then, it has published more than 20,000 articles ranging from local issues to national stories and international immigration.
Since 2015, La Prensa San Diego has expanded coverage to include breaking news, art and entertainment, sports, and in-depth investigative reporting on important issues facing our communities, including criminal justice reform, government transparency, and political campaigns.
In recent years we have expanded our social media presence, increased online advertising, and launched our own podcast, Behind the Curtain, hosted by our Publisher, Arturo Castañares.
And this year, we launched our new web portal, LaPrensa.org, with expanded coverage to include California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Florida, as well as Mexican border communities and updates from Mexico City.
Our coverage has earned prestigious awards, including the Ruben Salazar Award for Excellence in Print Journalism presented by the California Chicano News Media Association, and a 1st Place Prize for Political-Government coverage from the San Diego Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
