Walmart Gives $20,000 to Family Justice Center Alliance
Grant will support the Center’s work with victims of domestic violence
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation today presented the Family Justice Center Alliance with a $20,000 grant check to support its work to protect victims of domestic violence. The Family Justice Center Alliance is an international organization that utilizes a network of onsite staff, national faculty and technical assistance support to provide training, planning and consulting to Family Justice Centers and family violence professionals throughout the country.
The grant will be used for the Center’s Legal Network, which oversees temporary restraining order clinics and workshops for domestic violence and abuse cases. The legal team reviews 50 to 80 new cases per month on average.
“We are thrilled that the Walmart Foundation has chosen to support our Legal Network and its commitment to helping those who experience domestic violence and abuse,” said Casey Gwinn, Co-Founder of the Family Justice Center Alliance. “This funding is critical for the Legal Network to help protect women and help them escape the violent relationships they are involved in.”
The Legal Network is part of the San Diego Family Justice Center, the flagship facility for the Family Justice Center Alliance, which has more than 80 centers in operation and more than 100 centers under development across the U.S. and around the world. The San Diego office serves 100 new clients per month on average as a one-stop shop for those seeking law enforcement help, legal assistance, training and counseling.
“We are pleased to support the legal program and the vital services it provides to victims of abuse,” stated Aaron Rios, Senior Manager of Public Affairs and Government Relations for Walmart. “Walmart is always proud to partner with organizations like the Family Justice Center Alliance that are committed to making a difference in the lives of San Diego families.”
“This announcement shows that collaboration between residents, nonprofits, government and businesses can create real results to improve San Diego’s quality of life,” said Council-member Kevin Faulconer. “We are very proud to have organizations like the Family Justice Center and businesses like Walmart here in San Diego that are committed to making a positive impact on the San Diego community.”
Since its inception in 2002, the Family Justice Center Alliance has been expanding and broadening its services in response to the increasing demand for technical assistance from existing and developing Family Justice Centers in the United States and around the world. The Alliance has more than 11,000 members and more than 10,000 attendees per year in its online training courses.
