Alejandro Lopez Wins Super Bantamweight Title then Opens Local Gym
First Alejandro Lopez from Tijuana won Super Bantamweight in Atlantic City, NJ., then traveled back to San Diego open a local boxing gym of his good friend Carlos Barragan Sr.
Alejandro is a fluid boxer who possesses speed, brains, a superb left jab, a powerful punch with his left hook, a good chin and a proven championship heart. A self-effacing young many from Tijuana that started to fight when he was 7 years old, as of today he has won 22 fights out of 24 since he turned professional at 16.
Alejandro told me that he embarked on this career when, at six years old, he told his papa that many boys from school were beating him up. His Dad Alejandro Sr. immediately took action. He took him to the gym and told him ‘you will learn how to fight back.’
He has defeated his opponents in 22 matches between Mexico and United States. He is a National Champion in Mexico and now bantanmwieght Champion for the North American Boxing Association (NABA).
Lopez, 23, turned pro in 2003 and is 22-2, 7 K0s. In his last fight May 28 in Mexicali, he earned an eight-round decision over Eduardo Arcos, of Tijuana. The only foe common to both men is Diaz, who out-pointed Lopez over eight rounds March 20, 2010, in Key West, FL. In that fight, Lopez was down in each of the first two rounds, but rallied to nearly beat Diaz, losing by scores of 76-74 on all three scorecards.
Alejandro at his young age has already fought in Vegas, New York, Atlantic City, NJ., Key West, FL. and many other places in Mexico. Among his trips, Alejandro and his family were hosted at the Playboy mansion by the Playmates in Los Angeles.
Asked Lopez how he feels about his career, the Champion feels that he is willing to go all the way to follow the steps of Champions such as an all-time great boxer, “Raton Macias” long remembered among the great fighters of history.
His longtime trainer, his Dad, is excited about his son’s future. The whole family and friends feel very proud and excited. They foresee a great career in Alejandro’s future. Emily and her twins Alexa and Alexis (three years of age) are supporting him. I am sure in many ways that Alejandro will achieve his goals and will keep being the Champion he already is.
Last Saturday, Alejandro came to San Diego to cut the Ribbon for new gym, The House of Boxing, owned by Barragan located at #2304 Reo Drive, San Diego. This community Gym will help many young boys to follow their hearts into boxing.
