Process has begun for replacing Board seat

Spring Valley, CA – The Otay Water District announced today that Jaime Bonilla has tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors. Bonilla, a successful business owner in San Diego County, is stepping down to commit his energies fulltime to new professional opportunities. The resignation is effective immediately.  Bonilla served on the Board of Directors for nearly 12 years, including four of those years as Board President.

“Director Bonilla has been a dedicated public servant and a tremendous leader throughout his tenure on the Board,” said current Board President Jose Lopez. “He has led us through challenging times, and leaves us standing stronger because of his business experience, pride in our employees, and his commitment to the customers of the District.”

“I am pursuing a new professional opportunity that could hinder my ability to fulfill my deep commitment to Otay customers – and I won’t risk giving anything less than 100 percent to the people who elected me. This decision has taken deep thought and I have not come to this conclusion lightly,” said Mr. Bonilla. “It has been an honor to serve with all the current and past Board members, whom I know will continue to serve the District with great effectiveness. Most of all, it has been an honor to serve the customers of the Otay Water District.”

Bonilla served as Director for Division 2, which encompasses Otay Mesa, as well as the Sunbow, Rancho Del Rey, and Otay communities of the city of Chula Vista.  Boundaries for Division 2 recently changed with the adoption of new division maps as a result of the 2010 U.S. Census.

In accepting his resignation, the Otay Water District Board will begin the process of selecting a replacement to fill the remaining seven months of Bonilla’s term. In order to be considered for appointment to this vacancy, applicants must be a U.S. citizen and resident of the State of California, at least 18-years of age, registered to vote, a Division 2 resident, and otherwise legally able to hold public office. Applications and a map of Division 2 are available from the District’s website at www.otaywater.gov. An application can be mailed to interested parties by calling the District Secretary at 619-670-2280.
