Last year’s moviegoers at the city pool.

National City will kick off its summer Movies in the Park series with a showing of “Footloose” June 8. The series will continue with a movie on the second Friday of the month through September. As part of the San Diego Movies in the Park Series, each free movie event includes pre-show entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. with the feature presentation starting at dusk.
“Let’s return to the days of drive-in movies and family picnics,” said National City Mayor Ron Morrison. “These outdoor movies are a fun and inexpensive way to spend a Friday night under the stars with your family and friends. Each movie has themed pre-show entertainment for all ages to get the crowd involved and out of their seats! Grab your blanket, a to-go dinner from a local restaurant and join your friends and neighbors for some good old-fashioned fun this summer.”

The movie and pre-show entertainment schedule is as follows:

June 8 – “Footloose”: Las Palmas Park, 2200 Newell Street, Free Zumba class for all ages.

July 13 – “Happy Feet 2”: National City Municipal Pool, 1880 E. 22nd Street, Free open swim prior to the movie.

August 10 – “Wizard of Oz:”: Kimball Bowl, D Avenue and 12th Street

September 14 – “Moneyball”: Little Padres Field (little league field) at Kimball Park, 1300 A Ave. Free Padres tickets will be given to the first 50 participants.
