Voz Alta Fundraiser. Opening Reception July 18, 2009 at 4:20pm Hosted by Agua Dulce at Voz Alta Project. The fund-raiser will include live music by the legendary group Agua Dulce, well know for their musical community service efforts are going to play two sets of original soul, latin, salsa, funk music as they do best, With Special Guest DJs’ “FAM ROYAL CREW” DJ Hippo, DJ Myson King, DJ J Blow. Fundraiser will also include new art work from the Voz Alta Collective. Food, Drinks, and affordable Art. All money raised will go directly to keeping  Voz Alta alive. We’re looking for San Diego’s finest writing—stories, poems, creative nonfiction, essays, flash fiction, and excerpts from novels or memoirs. The deadline is August 1, 2009. “Fiesta at Guajome” lets visitors experience life in the 1800’s

Unique, Period Inspired Equestrian Performance Headlines Entertainment

 WHAT: The public is invited to enjoy “Fiesta at Guajome,” an event honoring the diverse cultural history of the Rancho Guajome Adobe. The 28-room adobe is a national historic landmark dating back to the 1850s. The fiesta will feature Native American and Hispanic traditions and will also highlight what life was like for early California settlers. The main attraction at this year’s event is an equestrian performance by Escaramuza las Golondrinas, where teams of six to 12 horsewomen ride sidesaddle dressed in traditional Mexican attire, replicating aristocratic nineteenth century women who were only allowed to ride during particular fiestas and processions. Other entertainment will include ballet folklorico dancing and Native American storytelling, as well as blacksmith and basket weaving demonstrations, and a tortilla-making workshop. Children can also create their own miniature piñata with candy. New activities include personalizing a maraca, building a pinwheel and constructing beaded necklace or bracelets. All of the activities are included in the price of admission. Tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for children ages four to 12; children under four are free.
