Museum open during Lemon Festival

A popular exhibit showcasing the early days of education in Chula Vista and the South Bay will be open during Chula Vista’s Lemon Festival on Sunday, August 9 at the Chula Vista Heritage Museum. The year-long exhibit, entitled “The Way We Learned: Education in the South Bay,” chronicles the schools and people from the mid 19th century through extensive photographs from the Chula Vista Public Library’s local history collection. The Museum, located at 360 Third Avenue, will be open during the festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the photographs, the exhibit will include school workbooks and yearbooks, grade reports, and student memorabilia from some of Chula Vista’s own residents. Artifacts such as clothing, inkwells, slates, a school bell, a school desk and “McGuffey Readers” will be on display.

The 13th annual Lemon Festival highlights Chula Vista’s self-proclaimed heritage as the Lemon Capital of the World. The festival will be held in downtown Chula Vista between E and G Streets on Third Avenue from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The free event features live entertainment, art displays, lemon contests, a kids’ fun zone, a car show, and much more!
