Sustainable Energy Initiatives/Rebates for Chula Vista Residents:

 Northwest Civic Association’s monthly Town Hall Meeting will be held Monday October 12th at 6 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Jimmy’s by the Park Restaurant, 333 Third Ave. in Chula Vista. South Bay Union School District Launches Outreach Website and Hotline Creating easy and efficient accessibility to information about Prop X

 As part of the South Bay Union School District’s Prop X outreach program, a bilingual information hotline – 1-888-62-PROPX – as well as a new website: www.buildingpropx. com, have been launched.

 Both provide information on upcoming contracting opportunities and other information relevant to Prop X.  The website features an overview of the bond measure, including scopes of work for the future modernization of seven of the District’s twelve elementary schools. The website also features the Prop X ballot language, the proposed program master schedule and information on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee.

Fund Raising Event to Save the Samahan Senior Center, Oct. 15

 As an on-going effort to raise the awareness of the San Diego community and to ask the County Board of Supervisors to continue to fund PASCCO’s (Pilipino American Senior Citizens of San Diego County Corporation) Samahan Senior Center Projects, Mimi’s Café in Mira Mesa has agreed to donate 15% of all sales on Thursday, October 15, 2009 towards our “SAVE OUR CENTERS” initiative.

 Mimi’s Café in Mira Mesa is located at 10788 Westview Parkway, San Diego and the event is from 7AM to 11PM, Thursday, October 15, 2009.

Community Invited to “Green Street” Volunteer Event in San Ysidro

 The Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego, in partnership with Urban Corps of San Diego County and San Diego City Council District 8, will host a volunteer community event in San Ysidro on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at 9 a.m. as a kickoff to the Green Street Community Enhancement Program.

 The community of San Ysidro is invited to roll up its sleeves alongside San Diego City Council President Ben Hueso in the public clean-up effort, which will be headquartered at the San Ysidro Civic and Recreation Center located at 212 West Park Ave. at the intersection of Hall St.

 In addition to the volunteer community improvement event, the Green Street program features the renovation of 25 homes for low-income qualifying San Ysidro residents. Applications for the Green Street home renovation program will be distributed at the event and residents may begin the income qualification process on-site by bringing copes of tax documentation and paystubs.

 In its two decades of service to youth and environment, Urban Corps has helped more than 6,500 youth in San Diego County attain job opportunities in the fields of conservation, recycling and community service.

 The San Diego Mesa College Art Gallery invites you to an exhibition of paintings, drawings and renderings of public artwork by internationally renowned Chicana muralist Judith F. Baca.

 Baca is the co-founder and visionary behind SPARC (Social and Public Art Resource Center) a community arts organization in Venice, CA. In 1976 she embarked on the monumental project of the Great Wall, a half-mile long mural painted in the flood control channel of the Tujunga Wash in the San Fernando Valley.
