Nine Girls Ask? for a cure for Ovarian Cancer, host annual Benefit Luncheon

 After being misdiagnosed by nine doctors within a six month period, at age 64, Joan Wyllie learned she had advanced Ovarian Cancer stage 3C-4. Joan’s cries for help fell on deaf ears. After becoming her own advocate, she insisted on laparoscopic surgery and received her diagnosis on February 29, 2008. Joan endured a seven hour surgery in March, 2008 that resulted in the removal of approximately 90% of the cancer.

 From this experience Joan, along with her family learned there is an alarming lack of knowledge and awareness among women and doctors alike, regarding the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of funds available for research to develop a test and cure for this horrific disease.

 In response to Joan’s new-found “PURPOSE,” she formed a non-profit organization called Nine Girls Ask? for a cure for Ovarian Cancer. The name originated from the fact that Joan, along with her three daughters and five granddaughters total nine. They demand to know “why neither a test nor cure exists for ovarian cancer!”

 Raising awareness is a key component in battling this “not so silent” disease and through the organization’s efforts they hope to fund important research and education about Ovarian Cancer.

 NBC 7/39 News Anchor, Susan Taylor will be Mistress of Ceremonies at this year’s first annual “Today Is a Gift” benefit luncheon. The event will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort. This benefit will include a program presented by renowned gynecological oncologists, educational booths, boutiques, lunch, raffle, and a live auction.
