The El Cajon Branch of the San Diego County Library, 201 E. Douglas Av, will host a family fiesta on Saturday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the front lawn of the library. The Fiesta Arco Iris Pro La Familia (Rainbow Festival for the Family) will be free of charge and the public is invited. The fiesta is in partnership with community member Rosa Montes, and will feature entertainment, refreshments, crafts, stories in Spanish, tours of the El Cajon Fire Department’s fire engine, prizes, and a community information fair.  Activities will be in English and Spanish.

The fiesta will feature popular magician duo, “Rafael & Katia Mariachi Magic” presenting a bilingual show from 12 noon to 1 p.m. The Los Angeles pair are well-known throughout California and have appeared on numerous television networks, including Univision and Telemundo, as well as venues in Las Vegas. Their high energy shows include much participation by children in their audiences. They return to the San Diego County Library by popular demand.

Another highlight will be a Spanish flamenco dance performance by Flamenco Arana at 2 p.m. Directed by Kristina Cobarrubia, the troupe is based in Pacific Beach, and features powerful dancers in authentic costumes performing to this historical and passionate music of Spain. Cobarrubia has danced and studied internationally, and also served as the assistant choreographer for the San Diego Opera Company’s performance of “Don Quixote.”

Other entertainment will include Mariachi music and Ballet Folklorico dancers provided by students from Cajon Valley Middle School at 1 p.m.  The community information fair will include a wide variety of local organizations, including the Girl Scouts, the Cajon Valley School District, Words Alive, literacy and English as a Second Language programs, the Center for Social Advocacy, and more.
