Powerful Slate of Workshop and Presentation at NAHP’s Convention
All-Things Digital and Social Media Workshops To Address Audience Engagement
Las Vegas, Nevada — The National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) announced today its roster of powerful workshops and presentations for its 26th Annual Convention and Business Expo “The Power of Hispanic Print: Innovating and Engaging Hispanic Audiences” taking place at the newly designed Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada from October 19-22, 2011.
Publishers will travel from across the country and Mexico to participate in the three-day conference, which will offer cutting-edge workshops and lectures from industry leaders and newcomers, touching on best practices, advertising, sales, news and social media for a rapidly-growing Hispanic audience.
Kicking off the event is the presentation “Path To Newspaper Survival” in which Jessica Pantanini, Chair of Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies (AHAA) will moderate a panel of industry experts that consists of Randy Bennett, Newspaper Association of America (NAA); Cloves Campbell, President National Newspapers Publishers Association; and Alejandro Sanchez, Publisher Al Día Newspaper.
“A recent Pew Hispanic Study reports that Hispanic media is flaring better than mainstream publications and in this year’s convention we want the theme ‘The Power of Hispanic Print: Innovating and Engaging Hispanic Audiences’ to send a strong message that NAHP member publications are standing strong and keeping up with trends in the evolving media landscape,” said NAHP President Clara Padilla Andrews.
“We are honoring the memory of Eddie Escobedo Senior, one of the founding members of NAHP and publisher of El Mundo, who passed away on October 2010 and who was an icon in Nevada’s Hispanic and business communities,” added Padilla Andrews.
In the All-Things Digital workshop, sponsored by Verizon, Hilda Garcia, VP of Multiplatform Content and Information for ImpreMedia and John Jones, Vice President Advantage Newspaper Consultants will share their insights on mobile platforms, content integration and more.
Every year the topic of social media is a publisher’s favorite and making a comeback to the convention is the expert on the topic Manny Ruiz, founder of the annual Hispanicize event on blogging, social media and marketing. The Social Media workshop is sponsored by Microsoft and is a must-attend event in the editorial track.
This year’s convention will debut a special editorial and business track by Melanie Deal of the U.S. Census in which recent American Community Survey (ACS) results will be shared with the attendees of the workshop sponsored by NAHP Hispanic Boom Symposium Series.
The convention all-time favorite advertisers’ roundtable consist of a two-part series in which corporations, media buyers and other attendees will learn in Part 1 “The Power of Hispanic Print” about recent trends and readership studies, followed by Part 2 “Round-table,” in which corporations such as Pepsico, AT&T, MGM and others will have an opportunity to meet publishers and learn about their publications’ reach into the Hispanic market.
The Latin Chamber of Commerce, Nevada and the National Hispanic Press Foundation are also partners in this year’s convention. The National Hispanic Press Foundation hosts a one-day Student Voices in Media Day – a journalism/publishing bootcamp for area university and high school students in conjunction with the NAHP convention.
“We want to thank our sponsors United Airlines, General Motors/Chevolet, AT& T, Verizon, Microsoft, MillerCoors, Goya, AARP, Ford and Sprint, to name a few, who believe in NAHP and support Hispanic media,” added President Padilla Andrews.
