Reza picks up second career conference weekly award

3609029 San Diego State junior Raymundo Reza has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the Denver, Colo., native’s second career conference weekly award and team’s first this season.

Reza, who was honored by two national teams of the week (College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer) yesterday, helped the Aztecs (6-4-4, 3-2-2 Pac-10) to a pair of key league road victories over the weekend.

Reza combined for two goals on three shots (all on net) as SDSU defeated No. 17 Stanf-ord (Soccer Times), 2-1, in overtime, and 11th-ranked California (College Soccer News), 2-0.

On Friday, Reza, an all-Pac-10 honorable mention pick a year ago, had a shot on goal in 60 minutes of action to help San Diego State get by the host Cardinal (9-4-1, 3-3-1 Pac-10).

On Sunday, Reza scored two goals less than seven minutes apart to give the Aztecs the victory over the Bears (8-7-0, 2-5-0 Pac-10) in Berkeley. Reza, who scored on each of his shot attempts, finished in both the 30th and 37th minute, respectively, while logging 82 minutes in the match. It was his second multi-goal game this season and third of his career.

The back-to-back wins wrapped up a six-match streak against nationally ranked opponents that saw SDSU go 3-2-1 and jump from sixth to second place in the Pac-10 standings. This year, San Diego State is 4-2-1 against ranked opponents, including a 3-0-1 mark against top-15 programs.

On the season, Reza leads the team in points (15), goals (six), shots (30) and shots on goal (15). He also has three assists and two game-winning goals.
