Southwestern College to Provide Free Youth Dental Exams

Exams Will Be at College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic in National City

    On Saturday, February 12, Southwestern College will hold free dental exams for children ages 1 to 18. The exams will be given at the College’s Dental Hygiene Program Clinic, located at its Higher Education Center in National City.

    Exams will include free:

    · dental sealants;

    · fluoride varnishes;

    · school entry dental exams;

    · community resources and information; and

    · opportunities to win prizes.

    In 2010, students in the College’s Dental Hygiene Program provided free dental care to more than 1,000 patients. During their studies, each student also volunteered for more than 30 hours at community health events and fairs, providing oral health education.

Small Business Fair Scheduled for February 16 in Carlsbad

    Vice Chair of the State Board of Equalization Michelle Steel and Assemblyman Martin Garrick announced that they are sponsoring a free small business fair in Carlsbad on February 16, 2011. 

    Representatives from the Board of Equalization (BOE), Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, Employment Development Department, and the North San Diego County Small Business Development Center will be available at the fair to assist attendees. This free fair is geared towards new business owners, entrepreneurs considering starting a business, and business owners that have questions about state or federal tax laws. Presentations include Avoiding Common Sales and Use Tax Problems, Better Business through Better Records, State Income Tax and Small Business, Small Business Resources and Updates for 2011, and Social Media Marketing.
