Sycuan Donates $15,000 To Get Parents To Little League World Series

The team from Chula Vista’s Park View Little League is on its way to the Little League World Series. Sycuan is making it possible for the players’ parents to join their sons in Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the tournament.

“We’re very happy to be able to do this and help the parents be part of something so amazing. We hope they have a great time while watching their kids make a run at a Little League World Series title,” said Daniel J. Tucker, Chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.

Since Little League only pays the cost of travel for players and coaches, family members who want to attend the international baseball tournament in Pennsylvania, must raise their own money in a matter of days, a tall order, even in good economic times.

Chairman Tucker and Sycuan heard about the need for funding and approached Park View Little League administrators about a donation, which will help pay for the parents’ airfare and lodging expenses.

The national Little League organization covered the cost of flying the boys out of town Monday but their parents had to give their credit card numbers in order to book a group travel package that has them leaving San Diego on Thursday.

A fundraising drive was launched Monday to help reduce the amount the parents’ credit cards will ultimately be charged, according to the newspaper.

It costs about $4,000 to send a family of four to the series to watch the boy’s compete in the preliminary round this weekend, and up to $6,000 if the team makes it all the way through the tournament, the Union-Tribune reported.

The team’s goal is to raise $45,000 to cover all the boys’ families through the preliminary round and $72,000 to cover everyone if Park View Little League makes it to the finals.

Donations can be made via PayPal at www.parkviewlittleleague.com/index2.htm and by mail to Park View Little League, c/o Leaf & Cole, 1843 Hotel Circle S., Suite 300, San Diego, CA 92108-3397.

Park View’s first Little League World Series game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday against the Great Lakes Regional champion. The game will be aired on ESPN2. Don’t get ESPN2 on your television, you can also try www.ESPN360.com on the internet, you can watch all the games but with one catch, the ESPN360 video only works with certain services providers. For example, if you service provider is AT&T no problem, Cox Communications, you are out of luck.
